Mike Hennessy Sr.

Founder

1960-2021

Mike Hennessy Sr. spent over 40 years turning his passion for building businesses and creating jobs into a run of successful ventures and brands. He started as a janitor at Med Publishing and worked his way up to national account manager, ultimately becoming chief operating officer. In 1993, Mike left to launch his own business, Multimedia Healthcare LLC and built a portfolio of award-winning clinical journals. In 1996, he sold 50% of his company to Freedom Communications Inc., in Orange County, California, a multibillion-dollar company, creating MultiMedia Healthcare/Freedom. Mike continued as CEO and president. In 1999, Mike started Intellisphere LLC as a 50/50 partner with Freedom Communications. He pioneered a new approach to print and digital publishing, guided by the principles of innovation and entrepreneurial spirit and reflecting his dedication to improving quality of life through health care research and education. In 2000, Freedom Communications sold Mike its half of Intellisphere LLC. In 2001, Freedom purchased Mike’s half of MultiMedia Healthcare/Freedom.

As sole owner, Mike continued to run Intellisphere LLC, which was the seed and is still part of what has grown into MJH Life Sciences®. Over the years, Mike added companies and capabilities to the business portfolio, including high-quality conferences, award-winning journals, comprehensive multimedia, and industry-leading education. Mike’s vision for each acquisition was to advance the company’s legacy as an authoritative, trusted brand, providing essential information to consumers and health care professionals. Because of his broad business and educational experience and understanding of the challenges facing New Jersey, Mike’s counsel and insight often was sought by several organizations, including his alma mater, Rider University, where he served on the board of trustees and executive committee. To further that legacy, the Mike & Patti Hennessy Foundation made a substantial donation in 2020 to Rider University. From that donation, the Mike and Patti Hennessy Science and Technology Center opened to students in January 2022.
