The Production Process

1. Kick off meeting: The project manager provides a thorough briefing of the assignment. All departments involved in the project, including a graphic designer or art director, must be represented at the kick-off meeting to ensure alignment. Final output information: The project manager provides a clear description of how the final product will be delivered, whether for video, learning modules, social media, PowerPoint, broadcast, or web. This determines the required file formats and establishes the appropriate workflow.

2. Storyboarding: The animation process will only commence once the storyboard is approved. This includes copy and art. Upon request, a sample storyboard will be provided.

3. Delivery: Once the request is fully understood, the project manager and Motion Graphics team align on key milestones and deadlines. Each project includes up to three rounds of revisions. If additional revisions are needed, the project timeline may be adjusted, and a new due date will be set.

Types of Animation | Timing | 3D Rendering

Basic animation / logo graphics: Length: 1-3 Minuets
Art Development: Approximately 7 business days.
Development Time: 10 business days once script and art
has been approved and uploaded to WorkFront.

Longer format: Length: 3-6 Minuets.
Art Development: Approximately 12 business days.
Development Time: 4 Weeks once script and art has been approved and uploaded to WorkFront.

Whiteboard Animation: is a video style where visuals are hand-drawn on a whiteboard (or similar background) in a time-lapse or stop-motion format, typically while a voiceover narrates a story, concept, or idea.

2D Medical info animation: is a traditional animation technique where flat, two-dimensional characters, objects, and backgrounds are created and animated in a sequence to simulate movement. Each frame is drawn by hand or digitally, and when played in rapid succession, these frames create the illusion of motion.

3D Animation: 3D animation and rendering can take three times longer than 2D due to the added complexity. Each object must be modeled, textured, lit, and rendered frame by frame, making the process more time-intensive than 2D’s simpler workflows.

The Difference Between 2D & 3D Animation

2D animation is a traditional animation technique where flat, two-dimensional characters, objects, and backgrounds are created and animated in a sequence to simulate movement. Each frame is drawn by hand or digitally, and when played in rapid succession, these frames create the illusion of motion.

This technique is used in films, TV shows, games, and ads. Digital tools now streamline the process with rigging and tweening, but 2D animation remains popular for its artistic appeal and storytelling flexibility.

3D animation is a technique where objects, characters, and environments are created in a three-dimensional space and animated to simulate realistic movement and depth. Unlike 2D animation, which is flat, 3D animation uses virtual models that can be rotated and moved in all directions.

Production time: Producing 3D animation typically takes approximately three times longer than 2D animation and requires computers equipped with high-end processing power. This is due to the complex modeling, rendering, and lighting calculations involved in creating realistic 3D visuals.
